In the afternoon of Dec.10th, teacher representatives from all public and private schools in Xinwu District gathered again at Boston International school for the 2nd Exchange Forum of Xinwu International Education Community. Mr. Gu Wanchun, the member of the Party Committee of Xinwu Education Bureau and Director of Xinwu Teacher Development Center attended the event. BIS Executive President Ms. Sue Su, Academic Principal Mr. Brian Rotunno, Assistant Academic Principal Mr. David Bremner and other representatives from management team accompanied.
Xinwu International Education Community is one of the features of Xinwu Education, aiming to enhance the communication between local and international schools and share the advanced educational concepts and resources to promote the international development of regional education. The 2nd Exchange Forum of Xinwu International Education Community is themed with ‘Learn About IB Curriculum, Talk About Curriculum Integration’. It focused on the concept and practice of IB Curriculum and aimed to inspire local schools to think about curriculum integration by learning about the IB Curriculum advantages in terms of transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary courses.
First, BIS Academic Principal Mr. Brian Rotunno gave a welcome speech. On behalf of all BIS staff, he expressed warm welcome to all the visitors. He said it was honored for Boston International School to host this new session of exchange forum of Xinwu International Education Community. As one of members in Xinwu International Education Development Community, our school keeps communicating actively with local schools and is committed to taking full advantage of our high-quality international education resources to support regional education development. We are willing to help local teachers better understand international education without travelling overseas and to provide opportunities for them to apply international pedagogy to their instruction design creatively.
Then BIS Assistant Academic Principal Mr. David Bremner shared an introduction to the IB curriculum in details and gave a showcase of classes of PYP Program, MYP Program and DP Program. It gave all visitors an opportunity to learn about IB Curriculum and experience our IB-based courses.
During this session, we are very honored to have Dr. Huang from Wuxi Academy of Educational Sciences to give us a lecture about Curriculum Integration in Education for International Understanding. Dr. Huang shared the most up-to-date theories from the academic perspective. It helped all of us to enhance the understanding of curriculum integration and inspired us to think about how to improve students’ core competencies.
Finally, Mr. Gu gave a conclusion speech for the event. He congratulated the success of this event and expressed his appreciation to Boston International School for hosting the first two sessions of Exchange Forums of Xinwu International Education Community.
He also expressed his appreciation to all representatives from primary and secondary schools in Xinwu district to attend the forums actively. He said that in last session, we focused on culture exchange via observing PE Class practice, whereas in the 2nd session we moved forward a further step into the curriculum integration. IB curriculum is recognized as one of the educational programs with high academic standards, which is worth being studied by the local educational institutions. As long as we have a well understanding about IB curriculum, we should think about how we can make progress in curriculum integration. He encouraged all educators in Xinwu to work hard together for a brighter future of Xinwu education development.
12月10日下午，新吴区全区各中、小学校长及学科带头人代表共同走进波士顿国际学校，开展新吴区国际教育共同体对话面对面第二期交流活动。新吴区教育局党委委员、教师发展中心主任顾万春参加活动。学校执行总裁Sue Sue女士、学术校长Brian Rotunno先生、学术副校长David Bremner先生等校方管理团队成员代表共同参与活动。
新吴区国际化优质教育共同体旨在加强国内外教育对话，实现教育理念、办学特色、教育资源共享，提升区域教育国际化水平。本次交流活动以 “走进IB课程，共话课程融合”为主题，聚焦IB课程体系的理念与实践，力图借鉴IB跨学科、多学科课程的优势，思考IB课程体系中有利于国家课程实施的因素，从而探寻课程融合之路。
活动首先由波士顿国际学校学校学术校长Brian Rotunno先生致欢迎辞。Brian Rotunno先生代表学校全体成员对大家的到来表示热烈的欢迎，他表示，波士顿国际学校非常荣幸可以承办本次活动，做为新吴区优质教育共同体成员学校之一，学校始终积极与区域内中小学开展广泛交流活动，希望借助自身国际教育资源和理念，为区域内的中小学提供更多不出国门获取国际先进教育理念和教育实践方法的机会，帮助大家更好地开展创新实践，共同助力区域教育高质量发展。
接下来，学校学术副校长David Bremner先生为大家详细地介绍了IB课程体系的核心理论和理念，并通过录制的课堂实景视频，分别展示了学校对于IB课程体系内小学PYP项目，初中MYP项目以及高中DP项目的教学实践，从而使得各位与会来宾从理论上认识了解了IB课程体系的同时，又从课堂中感受IB课程的实践理念与路径。
本次活动，我们还非常荣幸地再次邀请到江苏省无锡市教育科学研究院的黄树生博士为大家带来关于《国际理解教育中的课程融合》的主题讲座。黄博士从国际教育理解的广阔视角，深入浅出地为大家介绍了课程融合相关学术方面的理念和实践方法，帮助大家进一步扎实学术理论，启发大家进一步思考有助于学生核心素养提升的方式和方法。
最后，顾万春主任对活动进行了总结致辞。顾主任表示，新吴区国际教育共同体对话面对面系列活动已经成功举办两期，感谢波士顿国际学校对活动举办的大力支持，感谢新吴区全区各中、小学校长及学科带头人代表的积极参加。
从首期的“聚焦文化、立足课堂”，到第二期更深层次地走进课程共建的话题，新吴区国际教育共同体的交流又迈出了新的一步！IB课程被全球教育界认可为具有较高学业水准的教育项目之一，具有一定的科学性和价值所在。在充分理解和感受IB课程的魅力基础上，我们要思考如何能够求同存异，在IB课程所承载的理念，跨学科的灵活性，多学科的融合性，对学生自主深度学习的主导，对国际视野的启蒙与发展等方面多多思考与借鉴，力图探索出科学的课程共建之路。他鼓励大家共同携手努力，展望教育更远、更高、更灿烂的未来！
